LiSOCL2 battery (PCM) Protection Circuit Board


LiSOCL2 battery has many advantages, such as high voltage platform, high energy density (light weight and small size), long service life, and environmental protection. It is mainly composed of positive electrode material, negative electrode material, electrolyte, separator and shell.


Lithium-sulfur battery energy-type batteries have a relatively small discharge current, and the remaining energy after reaching the discharge cut-off voltage is small, and the safety hazard is minimal. However, power batteries are prone to safety hazards due to their large discharge current:


In the process of use, over-discharge and over-current will affect the service life and discharge performance of the battery, and in severe cases, it will cause the lithium battery to leak, burn and explode,Lisocl2 explosion.


LiSOCL2 battery short circuit has a high risk factor. Short circuit will cause the lithium sulfite battery to generate a large current instantly, and also generate a lot of heat, which will seriously damage the service life of the battery. The  li socl2 3.6V battery burned and exploded,Lisocl2 explosion occur.


In addition, after reaching the cut-off voltage, the equipment protection system decisively terminates the circuit according to the set parameters. After a few seconds, the equipment protection system monitors the battery open circuit voltage of 3.6V, and will restore the discharge circuit again to discharge the battery to the outside Lisocl2 explosion


Especially li socl2 battery pack in series circuits, the phenomenon of unsynchronized discharge between batteries often occurs, and batteries that discharge too quickly are easily overdischarged. 


LiSOCL2 battery protection circuit board is mainly composed of protection chip (or management chip), MOS tube, resistor, capacitor and PCB board, etc. 

The protective functions of the LiSOCL2 battery protection circuit board:


1. Avoiding over-discharge of LiSOCL2 battery

Similar as rechargeable Lipo battery, when the lithium battery is over-discharged, the internal storage of the LiSOCL2 battery will undergo a qualitative change. At this time, the LiSOCL2 battery protection circuit board can sense this, so as to quickly cut off the discharge power supply, so that the lithium battery will not be fully discharged. This ensures the stability of the internal current of the LiSOCL2 battery and avoids the over-discharge of LiSOCL2 battery.


2. Avoid overcurrent and short circuit

When a large current is generated, the protection board will be turned off instantly, so that the battery is no longer energized and no heat is generated.

Once it detects that any battery voltage exceeds 4.2V or any battery voltage is lower than 3.0V, the system will automatically cut off the charging or discharging circuit. If the battery temperature exceeds the operating temperature of the battery or the current exceeds the discharge current of the battery, the system will automatically cut off the current path to ensure the safety of the battery and the system.


3. Energy balance.

Same as LiFePO4 batteries, for the entire series-parallel li socl2 battery pack, because many batteries are connected in series, after working for a certain period of time, due to the inconsistency of the cells themselves, the inconsistency of operating temperature, etc. Large differences have a huge impact on battery life and system usage, and the protection board also needs to monitor the voltage of each battery. Energy balance is to make up for the differences between individual cells to do some active or passive charging or discharging management to ensure the consistency of the battery and prolong the life of the battery.
